This week at Feather & Ember, we spent an unreasonable amount of time debating the width of a margin and the tone of a gold. (Reasonable to us, anyway.) Books are a thousand small choices; the finish is where they start to feel like gifts.
The Feel of the Page (and Why It Matters)
We ran paper tests for our upcoming titles and landed on stocks that:
hold ink cleanly (no ghosting through the page),
keep whites warm rather than sterile,
and let type feel crisp at reading distance.
You don’t always notice paper when it’s right; you feel it in how long you want to keep reading.
Type That Breathes
We’re pairing Garamond for headlines with Lato for text—bookish grace plus modern clarity. Line length is capped around ~70 characters, and leading stays generous. The goal: pages that invite you back.
Small Luxuries, Quietly Applied
Section openers with a light wash of gold; subtle, not flashy.
Chapter numbers that sit like emblems, not billboards.
Pull quotes that spark curiosity without spoiling the reveal.
These are the gestures that turn information into experience.
Shipping, Simply
Quick reminder: handling can take up to 5 business days, U.S. shipping via Media Mail often arrives in 5–10 business days (sometimes longer). We ship worldwide. Once your order leaves the studio, the carrier’s tracking becomes the story we both follow. Questions? We’re here: support@featherandember.com.
A Thank-You (and a Nudge)
Thank you for reading, sharing, and writing to us. If you haven’t yet, subscribe to these notes—we’ll keep them purposeful and worth your time.
Working on something that belongs in the world? We’re currently considering submissions that spark connection and kindle change. Send a 1–2 page proposal and a few sample pages to publishing@featherandember.com with the subject “Submission: [Working Title]”.
Until next time—may your margins breathe and your ideas catch.
